Kei Larios presenting in front of an audience on NOVASEN's Decidim instance and assembly

On Sunday, June 13th at the COMMUN1TY+ Quarterly Convening, NOVA Web Development worker-owner Kei Larios gave a presentation on Decidim to those gathered at the event. COMMUN1TY+ leader Yolonda Earl-Thompson expressed an interest in using Decidim to help members of her community identify specific needs and make decisions around concrete actions they can take to address those needs.

NOVA Web Development is hoping to provide just this kind of Decidim support to groups like COMMUN1TY+ as a tool for the kinds of community empowerment we so badly need as we work to build a new solidarity economy.

Serendipitous Networking

In a wonderfully serendipitous experience, I met COMMUN1TY+ members Elizabeth T. Rainey and Deddeh Cooper, both of whom were born in Liberia.

We had a chance to talk about my upcoming trip to Liberia to stay with my friends and comrades at Jetro Web Development, and I mentioned our shared dream of building a solidarity economy / Social Justice Computing school in Liberia. Both Liz and Deddeh seemed excited by the idea. Since making the dream a reality will require support from friends in the U.S., meeting Liberian community activists living here was indeed a pleasant surprise.
