Changes at "NoVASEN should support the building of a Solidarity Economy School in Liberia"

Avatar: Jeffrey Elkner Jeffrey Elkner

Title (English)

  • +NoVASEN should support the building of a Solidarity Economy School in Liberia

Description (English)

  • +The NOVA Web Development cooperative and its partner cooperative in Liberia, Jetro Web Development, have been discussing building a solidarity economy school in Liberia with the goal of providing education in social justice computing and other solidarity economy skills needed to help develop a just, sustainable economy in Liberia.
  • +
  • +A few years ago, we had a commitment from the Kamal Foundation in Washington, D.C. (https://nonprofitlight.com/dc/washington/kamal-foundation-inc) to build a school, but that partnership, which was then with the public school system in Monrovia, fell apart.
  • +
  • +After that, the non-profit organization Social Justice Computing (https://sjcompute.org/) was created with support for the SE economy / social justice tech project in Liberia as its main focus. Without the support of the public school system, we envision forming a non-profit organization in Liberia which would own the school.
  • +
  • +Jetro Web Development has 7 deeply committed members who could play the central role in managing this project. Solidarity economy collaboration and support from NoVASEN could play a vital role in helping it succeed.
