On Tuesday, April 14, Nairuti Shastry, the inaugural Director of Policy & Research at the Center for Economic Democracy (CED), will be joining the Next System Fellows to introduce community wealth building, an economic development model that transforms local economies based on communities having direct ownership and control of their assets. But what does that really mean? And how might CWB help us to address the most pressing crises of today---from rising economic inequality and affordability to housing and climate change? Join us as Shastry draws on her organization's vision for economic democracy to demonstrate how CWB activity is helping communities around the world confront this polycrisis and opportunities for expanding the model's efficacy in the future.

Nairuti Shastry is the inaugural Director of Policy & Research at the Center for Economic Democracy (CED), where she leads the organization's translocal efforts to seed an economy that works for us all. Prior to joining CED, Nairuti spent eight years as a movement operative, supporting organizations and communities to hospice the old and birth the new in pursuit of more just economic futures. Nairuti holds a BA in sociology, French & Francophone studies, and public health from the College of William & Mary and a Next Economy MBA from LIFT Economy.
